School and businesses reopening, mental health, the threat of a new wave, and the importance of ongoing diligence
It’s almost strange to think about how much the world has changed in just over half a year.
The temperatures are dropping, and students are returning to class, but the COVID-19 pandemic has the month of September looking much different than it usually does.
Back to school is in full swing and more workplaces and offices are beginning to reopen, but with these changes come questions about precautions being taken, the position we’re in to handle a potential resurgence in cases, and perhaps most importantly what changes, if any, we should be making to our daily lives and routines in order to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.
Last Friday, OMERS Senior Vice President, Pension & Corporate Services, Celine Chiovitti brought together a team of experts to explore these questions – and more – to help us feel confident as we move into this new phase of the pandemic.
In this In Conversation panel, Celine hosted Giuliana Carbone from the City of Toronto, Scott Marks from the Canadian Operations of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), League’s Susan Van Klink, and OMERS Chief Medical Officer, Dr. James Aw, to discuss available community supports, safety and wellness tips, as well as the health and wellness resources available to guide us through these challenging times.
In describing the motivation for organizing the panel, Celine noted, “As we have navigated the pandemic, I have been struck by the generosity of spirit that we’ve seen consistently, and I wanted to create a forum to talk about the tremendous support that continues. This panel was a reflection of the OMERS community, bringing together the perspectives of an OMERS member, employer, employee and an OMERS portfolio company. I am grateful to each of the panelists who spoke openly and candidly about their experiences.
“As we continue to work our way through the pandemic, our sincere thanks to each and every OMERS member who continues to keep vital local services available across our communities.”
